ProfileBorn in Ireland in 1988 where I was educated and worked immediatelyafter leaving school. After the 2008 recession I decided to travel and lived in the UK for 2 years and in the French Alps for a time also. I made my way to the states in 2016 and have been a legal resident ever since. I am married with 2 children and am determined to provide a stable and happy life for my family through hard work and determination. Contacts-Email: EMAIL AVAILABLE-Phone: PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEEducation & Work history-First and Second level education passed in Ireland.-3rd level education through a government run apprenticeship scheme in Carpentry & Joinery, which lasted 4 years. Due to the 2008 crash I was unable to finish the last 80 days of the course but have received pass and credit marks in all attended exams and as such am only missing the time served. No fails on any exam I ever took in the entire apprenticeship. Rather than wait in Ireland for the time to finish the course, I took the time to travel and continue my education in the trade.-I worked for 2 different construction companies in Ireland before I moved to France to work as a maintenance technician in a ski chalet in the French Alps. This helped me realize I wanted to make the move out of construction into maintenance. I also learned a lot about traditional building techniques which have been perfected over the years to function in both extremely cold winters and extremely hot summers. I also learned to be semi fluent in French, a skill that I have sadly let mostly pass by.-I then moved to London where I worked full time for a national maintenance company where I was based around London. I also worked part time at Legoland Windsor thus fulfilling a childhood goal. As a maintenance engineer my tasks varied from ensuring the buildings we managed were kept up to code with fire regulations, free of asbestos, continuing to obey all health and safety guidelines and performing a wide range of repairs.-I moved to the US and settled in Annapolis MD where I started working in a joinery workshop. I was happily employed there for 6 months before work started to decline and our 5 day week was reduced to 3. I took this time to seek out a more stable employment opportunity.-I then worked for a remodeling company for 2 years as a lead carpenter of 1 of the many crews. In this role I learned the key differences between being a part of a team and leading a team.-After 2 years there I left when I got offered a substantially better role in Washington DC that afforded more room to grow, considerable pay increase and extended benefits. My current role is managing a maintenance team of 6 full time employees for a property management company. I still do some hands on work when the job requires a particular skill or understanding but my main duties are to evaluate the property after tenants move out, make note of all damage, quote repairs, oversee the repairs and ensure the property is up to code. I also meet the home owners before they sign off on the property, going through the specified items on their inspection report and going through the repairs prior to work beginning. I do my best to ensure they have all information they need while not being overwhelmed with the information at the same time. I also deal with HOAs and boards of condos on a semi regular basis. I perform regular walk throughs at specific properties throughout DC where I compile a list of suggested repairs, noted defects and over all condition of the property for the building management or board of directors. As the head of maintenance it is my responsibility to delegate and schedule the specific tasks to each specific team member based on their skill level. I try to check in on each employee at least once a day to ensure they have the correct materials and tools for their assigned task and to ensure they fully understand their task. I have built the team up from just 2 employees to a very capable team of 6 employees, each with their own specific skill set and working needs. It is my job to ensure they are clear on their work load while also ensuring they are adequately supplied and looked after. As such I have many proud moments where we were able to perform complex and often difficult tasks, such as structural repairs, while simultaneously ensuring we were on target for both budget and time.Skills-Extensive experience in most forms of carpentry.-Basic electrical and plumbing experience.-Drywall install and repair.-Articulate and easy to understand communication with the tenant/owner/account manager/maintenance team member.-Manage a team and ensure good working relations between all relevant parties.-Keen eye for problem solving due to the decade plus spent in construction and the years of maintenance work from 3 different countries. Examples include but are not limited to, water intrusion and structural weak points.-Attitude and desire to learn on the job and never miss an opportunity to solve a problem.-Identify and supply correct materials. Quote with a high degree of accuracy the amount of hours and the material required.-Mold remediation certificate.Final statementI am a family man who understands the importance of punctuality, honesty, communication and integrity. I have garnered a lot of experience in my short life and have every intention of ensuring that it is not wasted. I have a genuine desire to set high standards for myself in the working world, and I commit to a project from start to finish. Employment references-As I am currently in the US, I am only including the US companies I have worked for but I can provide the full history of all companies in Ireland, France and the UK if needed. -Carpentry workshop has since closed down.-Bluestar paint and property in Annapolis MD - Approx 2 years of employment.-Current employer in DC - 5+ years. Leaving this blank until I am sure I am leaving. |
