My duties involve performing molecular assays and contributing to the intellectual development of our projects by data analysis and devising road maps for key experiments in collaboration with my research team.Franklin & Marshall College, Department of Neuroscience, Lancaster, PA 2016 Research Lab ManagerSupervisor: Professor Robert N. Jinks My duties included working alongside the undergraduate summer research students in the lab by assisting them on their various projects. Often served as a liaison between the students and Dr. Jinks, and stood in his place to keep the lab running efficiently while Dr. Jinks traveled to conferences. Along with helping the undergraduate students to push their projects towards publication, I also took intellectual ownership over a project I have been working on since the summer 2015.Franklin & Marshall College, Department of Neuroscience, Lancaster, PA 2013-2016 Lab InternSupervisor: Professor Robert N. Jinks Awarded the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship to conduct neuroscience research in collaboration with the Clinic for Special Children on rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorders in Amish and Mennonite children. Patients in the clinic presented with microcephaly, intellectual disability, developmental delay, motor delay, epilepsy, chorioretinopathy, corpus callosum hypoplasia, dystonia, Galloway-Mowat Syndrome, and other rare disorders. The clinic runs genetic screenings to determine the deleterious mutations found in their patients. Our lab performs DNA cloning using specific cell lines, bioengineers the mutation found by the clinic in recombinant DNA plasmid vectors, and runs functional studies to determine the underlying aberrant molecular functions in the proteins encoded by the mutations. These investigations allow us to provide molecular explanations for the patients neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. My experience includes Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine 2014 Department of Neural and Behavioral Neurosciences, Hershey, PA Commonwealth Undergraduate Summer Research InternSupervisor: Harjit Singh, M.D. Assisted a doctoral candidate working in Dr. Patricia S. Grigsons lab on a behavioral neuroscience project investigating development of heroin addiction in a rat model. Performed behavioral tests in a rat self-administration model of addiction, analyzed results, and created theoretical models during data analysis. Presented research at the Penn State Hershey Undergraduate Biomedical Research Symposium, at the Franklin & Marshall College Fall Research Fair, and was chosen to present at the 2015 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) in San Antonio, Texas.
