Street Address June 2019REFERENCE LETTER FOR TEAH TUASHVILII warmly recommend Ms. Teah Tuashvili who for five years cared for my elderly mother. Teah (pronounced Tey-ah) is a Street Address -year-old European woman from Tbilisi, Georgia, who has lived in the U.S. since 2007 and communicates in English effectively. She is a trained Home Health Aide (HHA) and Personal Care Assistant (PCA), with certificates in these areas from Beacon Healthcare School, Brooklyn. She has a New York State drivers license and is a U.S. permanent resident, with a green card allowing her to work legally; she plans to apply soon for U.S. citizenship. Before working for my family, as described below, Teah cared for clients including Arthur Ortenberg (the apparel manufacturer and philanthropist who was married to the fashion designer Liz Claiborne) and the prominent architect I.M. Pei. Earlier she worked for home health aide agencies and at Cedar Crest Retirement Community in Pompton Plains, NJ. In Street Address Ms. Tuashvili began to care for my mother, Sylvia Bashkow of 11 Riverside Drive on Manhattans Upper West Side. At the time my mother was 85, and it was becoming hard for her to manage daily life tasks like shopping and cooking, or getting ready for trips and outings, purely on her own. Teah started helping her with shopping, cooking, laundry, managing medications, reminding her of appointments, making reservations, and accompanying her to medical visits, on walks, and to museums and performances. Teah also encouraged my mother to see her friends and helped her to do so. The truth is that initially my mother did not wish to have a full-time, live-in, personal care assistant, but Teah did so much to enhance the quality of her life and increase her ability to do the things she enjoyed doing (like going to operas and movies, having meals out with friends, attending synagogue services on Sabbath mornings and holidays, and visiting museums and galleries) that my mother quickly came to appreciate Teah, and we, her children, were glad to see that mom was eating well again and to know that she was being well cared for, and at all times. On a number of occasions my mother had to enter the hospital, and I saw how Teah stayed by her, advocated for her with hospital staff, and watched over her to ensure that she received appropriate care.Over the following years my mothers needs for assistance increased, and Teah was able to meet them. She helped my mother with bathing, dressing, housecleaning, measuring blood pressure, and using a walker and later wheelchair to continue to go on outings and walks. She called my mothers friends herself to arrange their outings and visits. She was much more than a caretaker; she was my mothers true friend. My mother trusted Teah and was happy to be with her. Toward the end of her life my mother could talk only with difficulty, and I saw how Teah routinely intuited her unspoken needs that no one else could decipher. Teah enabled my mother to continue to live in her own apartment, where she wanted to be, until the very end of her life. She cared for her with intense consideration, sound judgment, and genuine lovingkindness. I myself came to keenly respect Teahs intelligence and to rely on her judgment about what would be best for my mothers comfort and health. There is no doubt in my mind that Teah enabled my mother to live considerably longer, and with a much higher quality of life, than she would have without her. In short, Teah is a uniquely gifted, intelligent, strong, steady, and capable home health aide/personal care assistant. I have seen her perform in a wide range of contexts and can attest that she is a person of character and integrity. In stressful situations she maintains a positive attitude and functions constructively and effectively. But she is also forthright, genuine, warm, and full of feeling. At her home in Tbilisi, Georgia, she was a graduate of the top-ranked university (Tbilisi State University)she is a person of substance who works impressively hard in order to support her young daughter there and the rest of her family. I really cannot recommend Teah highly enough. I think it would be hard or maybe impossible to find another like her. Her care for my mother was a gift to her and our whole family.
