PhilosophyAs a Maternity Nurse I strive to provide as much support for the mother and family, as I possibly can. I am a very calm and confident Maternity Nurse which shows in my ability to deal with the many areas of maternity nursing calmly. I am also a very positive person and therefore it comes naturally to me when comforting and supporting the family to offer a very positive outlook on any given situation.Often a Maternity Nurse will arrive when families are under stress with nights of no sleep. It is extremely important for a Maternity Nurse to be sensitive to this fact and help the entire family grow accustomed to the new member of the family. If there are siblings I believe it important for a Maternity Nurse to interact with all members of the family and help each and every one adjust in the time that she is there. My aim is to help/support and reassure where and when needed so that the entire family adjusts and by the time my position is finished the parents are secure in their abilities to provide a structured environment for all of their family.I enjoy all aspects of maternity nursing, and have been told that I rise to the occasion when stresses are high in the household.Having worked for many families with Twins I am very comfortable working with multiples. I have experience with tube feeding and Twins with Reflux. My strengths in my jobs so far are supporting the mother with breastfeeding issues, and setting into place a structured routine that works well with each family that I have worked for. I am able to approach each job individually and understand that each family has different ideas and approaches to bringing up their children and I work these into each routine.I have dealt with Colic and Reflux in newborns as well as some stressful situations in more high profile households. I am extremely supportive in all situations and will go the extra mile to help and reassure the new mother.I have worked with families with a Gina Ford approach, as well as a Baby Whisperer and Demand Feeding. Along with trying a Dr Ferber approach. I specialize in sleep issues and helping families with a structured routine.I have worked with children of various ages for over 20yrs and specializing in Newborns for 8yrs. I love my work as a Maternity Nurse and hope to continue helping families and their babies for many years to come.EducationCromer High School Diploma, Cromer, EnglandCSE- English, Math, Geography, French, Secretarial-Business, Needlework- Sewing.NNCC Care Assistant 1Specializing in care of elderly & in-firmed patients CPRNNCC Care Assistant 2Specializing in emergency situations, dealing with family concerns and stressLink to Life Emergency TrainingCPR and Newborn First AidSt Johns AmbulanceFirst Aid & Emergency CPR +AED Expiry 2016February 2008- CompletedMNT OCN Maternity Nurse Training/ Maternity Practitioner AwardStudies include-Breastfeeding/Pumping-Positioning and LatchHealth and Care of NewbornsSleep patternsSleep issuesRoutinesHealth and Care of Post Natal MothersPost Natal DepressionColic in babiesAnd more.MNT Certificate available upon requestProfessional Maternity ExperienceNov 2nd 2012- March 2016 Paola Calce & Larry Thacker (Toronto) Premature TwinsMrs Calce needed a two week placement working nights. Her twins are on a very good routine. Going to bed around 7pm, dream feed at 11pm and waking at 7am. Both boys are doing very well. I continued to work for Ms Calce weekend nights and took on a more permanent role when their nanny left earlier this year. Currently working days 5 days a week. The hours do change and we are very flexible when she needs extra coverage.Nov 2013- Aug 2014 Megan Fredrickson1-2 days per week looking after a baby boy. Giving age appropriate advice to help with routine and growth etc.May 24th 2013- Aug 3013 Ivana KadickBaby in ICU with low Platelet for days.Working nights helping to get baby settled into a nightly routine.Feb 5th 2013- April Shannon Andersen(Toronto) Premature TwinsTwin girls came home weighing 6lbs and 7lbs having been in hospital since Christmas.Shannon is very hands on and needed just night cover. Both were feeding well, I work nights and do the feeds 3-4 nights per week.Feeding pumped milk and resettling after the nighttime feeds.Jan 1st 2013 10 Days Philicia Cohen(Toronto)1 Week placement for newborn baby. Ms Cohen wanted and was very keen to establish a good breastfeeding schedule. Having struggled with her first child it was important for her to get her baby feeding well in the first week.Sept 2012- Christine Fischer (Toronto)Mrs Fischer called me when she found out she was expecting her second child. I had been her night nurse for her first. I worked the first week the baby was home, then went back again in 2 weeks for 12 nights. We worked on a routine during the day for Ms Fischer as her baby was slightly Colic, the routine helped and her baby is now on a great routine. At 5 wks her baby was going to bed at 8pm waking at 2pm and then at 7am.Aug 2011-Aug 2012 Melanie Aitken (Toronto)Mrs Aitken was looking for a well qualified Maternity Nanny as she was expecting her second child. I began a month before the baby was born. On his arrival I was in charge of all things pertaining to the baby. It was very important to Mrs Aitken that a schedule was put into place quite quickly. She had to return to work after a few weeks and was very much wanting the routine in place for that time.I did days for Mrs Aitken and soon put into place a daily routine that the baby thrived on. He is a jolly little chap and loves his naps. He was solely breastfed so we worked very hard on getting Mrs Aitken on a regular feeding schedule with the baby.I look to Mrs Aitken as a good friend. I have been with her for 9 months and will miss her and the children. She is about to move and relocate so she no longer needs care for her 9month old. I was also responsible for her elder boy when he was home.March 2011-August 2011 Audrey Kinghorn (Toronto)Mrs Kinghorn called with some issued with her 2 month old baby. He was not sleeping, and would feed every 1-2hrs. I did a few nights here and there troubleshooting trying to solve the issues. We began by making sure his feeds were a good length and that he was full. Then he went longer in between each feed. Mrs Kinghorn had tried attachment parenting and it did not work for her. So we spent some time getting a schedule into place that would lengthen the feeding times and stretch him out feed wise. He was soon going 3hrs in between and going to bed at 8pm instead of 1am. With the schedule it helped a lot and Mrs Kinghorn was extremely happy. I went back a couple of times just to assess the situation and when my other job slowed down I did a few days for her also just to help out.Dec 2010- March 2011 Sofia Moumouris (Toronto)Mrs Moumouris originally requested me for 4 weeks. I worked nights 5 times a week, then after 6 weeks I went down to 4 nights and finally after 3 months I was doing 1 night a week. ( The job was extended considerably)The baby was premature, so quite small. He needed to feed quite frequently at the beginning but once he gained weight he was fantastic. Only waking up at 1am/5am to feed. I fed him during the night with pumped milk, and Mrs Moumouris breastfed during the day. I gave Ms Moumouris a schedule that would work with her day, which she followed.Nov 2010-Dec 2010 Christine Fischer (Toronto)Mrs Fischer only required one week of care. Both her and her husband needed some advice and someone to show them the ropes.I helped them with feeding schedules along with routines and how to settle him. I helped with the circumcision care and explained anything that they needed to know.By the end of the week they were both very comfortable with bathing and feeding the baby and were extremely happy. I have been back to look after their baby when they wanted to go away. He is a very happy chap who sleeps through the night. The baby was in the room with me at night for the week that I was there.June 2010-Nov 2010 High Profile Client (Toronto) Premie TwinsI began working for Ms X before her twin babies were born, to help with getting things ready. A week after I began her twin babies were born 5 weeks premature. The first week I stayed in the hospital assisting Ms X with the babies. When we left for home, both babies stayed in the hospital, I was in charge of all hospital runs, taking pumped milk to the hospital when Ms X was too tired to go. I also conversed with Dr's and Nurses in the care of both the babies relaying messages back and forth. Eventually Ms X was allowed to try to breastfeed both babies, so we travelled back and forth to the hospital every 2-3 hrs for feeding. Breastfeeding was extremely important to Ms X so we worked very hard on getting her milk supply up for both babies. When both babies were allowed home, I worked alongside a Nanny who worked the hours that I did not. I put into place a schedule that worked for Ms X and both babies were solely breastfed up till my leaving.Ms x and her partner were very high profile, so leaving the home was limited.I was responsible for all babies duties, sterilizing bottles etc, along with nightly bathing of the babies which Ms X enjoyed helping with. The babies were both in the same room, along with myself and were soon onto a good feeding schedule.April 2010- June 2010 Yadranka Banovich (Toronto) TwinsMrs Banovich had given birth to twins and was finding things a little stressful, she called me looking for some well needed rest and just some help at night. I worked from 9pm-7am at the beginning till the babies were sleeping a little longer. Then I worked from 10pm-6am.Both babies were bottle fed, so I was responsible for all feedings during the night, changing and re-settling the babies.February 2010- April 2010 Lynn Holloran (Toronto)I began my contract with Mrs Holloran the day she came home from the hospital with her newborn baby boy.Mrs Holloran had a C-Section, and was planning on breastfeeding. We had discussed this at our meeting before I began so we set forth a plan to get her breastfeeding as soon as she got home from hospital. By day two mother and baby were breastfeeding wonderfully with no issues. She has sailed through beautifully and was a joy to be around. Her baby was on a 3hr feeding schedule, Mrs Holloran wanted to introduce a bottle, which we did and she was able to go from bottle to breasteeding without any issues. She pumped regularly so she had a good supply in the freezer for when she needed to go out.Her baby thrived, and was a very happy little boy.My hours were different, sometimes Mrs Holloran wanted nights, and others days, so I worked on a flexible schedule and planed ahead in blocks of a week at a time.Mrs Holleran did not want a strict routine so we were flexible in our scheduling.I eventually just worked for Mrs Holleran on a Saturday afternoon so she could go and ride her horse. Both mother and baby are doing amazing. I still receive photos and emails from Lynn.October 2009- January 2010 Michelle Koerner/Kevin Doyle (Toronto)I began working for the family the day they arrived home from the hospital with their four day old baby. Breastfeeding was important for Mrs Koerner so establishing a good feeding routine was a main focus. A three hour feeding routine was soon put into place, with the baby waking up during the night only a twice. We set into place a night time routine, I arrived at 6pm and would take the baby and start his bedtime routine, bathing/ feeding/swaddling and settling.Mrs Koerner pumped during the nights after a few weeks and I would feed the baby when he woke, settling him back to sleep. My job included all nursery duties, restocking, laundry and sterilizing all equipment. I finished at 10am after settling the baby for his morning nap. This placement was for approx 3 months.I am still in contact with the Michelle Koerner, and have visited since I left. The little boy is doing very well and he continued to sleep through the night after I left.March 2009- 3 days 24hr: Susannah Beeson (London UK)Three day, 24 hour placement for Mrs.Beeson and her two-week-old baby. The focus was on establishing a routine and three-hourly feeds, assistance with breast feeding and overnight care. Guided Mrs. Beeson toward incorporating the baby's routine into the well established rhythms of the elder child and family as a whole.October 2008- December 2008: Erika & Matteo Volpi (Italy)Emergency placement for Ms Volpi for her and her 5wk old baby, who was suffering from Colic & Refux, my main aim was helping Mrs Volpi get a routine in place that allowed for demand feeding, but also helped elimate the colic, which was mainly apparent in the evenings. The routine was demand feeding, with a 3 hourly feeding when possible. Mrs Volpi breastfed night and day. I took the baby to Mrs Volpi upon waking during the night and then resettled the baby after breastfeeding. All responsibility with bathing & care for the newborn, along with tidying room and restocking, cleaning the babies clothes and keeping things in order. Mr Volpi worked away so it was important to give Mrs Volpi a lot of moral and emotional support during these times. We did eliminate the colic with only the odd flare up, after a slight routine was in place. The baby was sleeping through the night when I finished, and was a very happy and Jolly girl.Mr and Mrs Volpi I believe moved to South Africa so I am no longer in contact with them unfortunately.August 2008 October 2008: Kate & Antione Gourdon (London UK)Full time 24/6 Maternity Nurse for the newborn baby in a 6 wk placement.Care and Support of the post natal mother after C-Section.Breastfeeding support and encouragement with pumping during the day, along with bottle feeding during the night, and resettling. The routine was 3 hourly feeds, with the aim of the baby sleeping through the night by the time my placement was complete.I provided support for the entire family, along with encouraging the 2yr old to be involved. Bathing/Washing the baby and restocking of the babies room along with driving the 2yr old and Mrs Gourdon to and from Nursery while she recuperated from her C-Section.The last week was helping Mrs Gourdon with the routine so that upon my leaving she felt able to put into effect the routine on her own.The baby was sleeping through the night at the end of my placement.Kate and Antoine are great friends, I returned to help them out when the baby was older and they were transitioning into a Nanny. I helped them interview their current Nanny. We skype when we can and often talk online. They have since relocated to France.March 2008- June 2008: Miranda Brooks (New York)Full time 24/6 Maternity Nurse for newborn baby, for 3 months.Support in breastfeeding and pumping along with bottle feeding at night. This position included lots of travel with the newborn & keeping a structured routine and schedule in place. The routine was Gina Ford based, w/ 3 hourly feeds. A lot of flexibility however when traveling.I was responsible for all washing and bathing of the baby and restocking and tidying of the babies area. I also ran many errands for Ms Brooks, picking up items for the baby along with some grocery shopping and dry cleaning.I was also responsible for packing up the babies items for many trips, and making sure everything was In order.Organization was important. This was my very first Maternity job, I was very pleased with my work with Ms Brooks and still email and receive photos of both her girls every so often.Reference-Available upon request. |
