PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEPlant Utilities Engineer IIIElmira Correctional Facility - Elmira, NYAugust Street Address to November 30, 2024I was in charge of the boiler room and the shift work sta members. I was responsible for the auxiliary equipment ( air compressors, emergency generators and more). I did the reporting monthly that NYS expected to be up to date as it possibly could be. I did various annual and semi-annual reports regulatory agencies. I chose to retire 3 years earlier than I originally planned to because the job was no worth the stress, unreasonable demands and unrealistic expectations I had no choice but to deal with them. I could have decided to stay there three more years but the pay, benets and pension. I would have received a larger pension by staying there three more years. I chose to retire early because it was no longer worth the hassle I had deal with on a daily basis. Unfortunately, being a NYS employee who works for the Department of Corrections and Community Services (thats actually the parole department and Corrections and Parole used to be two separate agencies but NYS decided to combine the two agencies). The fact is NYS employees in every state prison has become an epidemic because NYS employees are walking out in record numbers and it increases on a regular basis. The fact that I chose to retire three years early actually means very little because most NYS employees who work for Corrections basically feel the same way about the NYS and Corrections as I do. It actually made little dierence if youre a civilian employee like I was or a member of Security. I decided to leave early my personal reasons and staying there could have quite possibly made me sick and less likely to live less longer than I plan to live. I have been unemployed two times in my life and in both cases it nothing to with my willingness to do my job to best of my ability. I have always been a person who believes that doing my job meant that I always did more than I was asked to do and I was expected to do. I was unemployed in both instances for nancial reasons only and not because I had never failed to do my job correctly. I have always felt that job any job I have ever had in my entire lifetime I have always done more than I was asked to do. Thats the way I was raised to believe in by my parents. Plant Utilities Engineer IIIPlant Utilities Engineer IIIFive Points Correctional Facility - Romulus, NYJanuary 2018 to August 2022Its the same as my position at Elmira CF. except I was responsible for more areas and utilities. I was in charge of a 750,000 gallon water tank that supplied the facility and two adjoining townships. I oversaw along with OGS the rehab and painting of it (the contractors kept backing out or were unskilled to do it correctly. It took three contractors and 33 months instead of 5 months to complete. I didnt pick the contractor. It went to the lowest bidder on state contract. I had to gure out how to supply the facility with an empty tower for two years). They were supposed by directive clean the electrical switchgear panels and test the transformers every 3 years. The prison was open 21 years before it was ever rst done. I was in charge of the project and coordinated it. I worked with various contractors. Did all the mandatory reporting to NYS and various regulatory agencies. I was also responsible for the sewage system.Ive worked with both high pressure steam and hot water boilers in both re tube and water tube boilers. I have experience burning coal, #6 oil, #2 oil and natural gas. Most boilers were red primarily by natural gas with #2 oil as a backup. I have a lot of experience with coal but the boilers were all retrotted to NG and #2 oil backup eventually. I was also responsible for the Building Control System operations and oversaw the heating, proper ventilation and air conditioning. I have no practical hands on experience in air conditioning but I understand the basics.I was at Five Points when Covid became foremost in everyones mind. We had to do some very creative things to ensure everyones safety. Some, I was told wouldnt work in theory. Im good at theory and I understand the principles of a lot of disciplines. Im also very adaptable and can make some ideas work that shouldnt. It was a very trying and challenging time. I learned a lot from it and I taught others to think outside of the box when they had to.I only left there and transferred to Elmira at the request of my former supervisor at Five Points to do the reporting that no one at Elmira knew how to do. Some of it was almost one year overdue. Plant Utilities EngineerPlant Utilities EngineerWillard DTC - Willard, NYNovember 2000 to January 2018I operated re tube package boilers that supplied heat the facility. Also responsible for running emergency generators and auxiliary equipment. Answered trouble calls inside the facility on o shifts. Did maintenance work. I also did a great portion of my supervisors paperwork and regulatory reporting. I took a promotion to Five Points. Boiler OperatorBoiler OperatorCargill Salt - Watkins Glen, NYDecember 1997 to November 2000Operated 2 coal red high pressure water tube boilers and 2 smaller NG red re tube boilers used to process raw brine into table salt. Ran and monitored the auxiliary equipment including pumps, air compressors, other equipment and tested and monitored the boiler feed water and adjusted the chemical treatment accordingly. I worked alone on the 11:00 pm-7:00 am shift at rst. Then I covered for when the other operators were o. During the time I was not operating the boilers I did maintenance work. Left to work for NYS.Spare Boiler OperatorSpare Boiler OperatorAkko-Nobel Salt-now called US salt LLC - Watkins Glen, NY September 1993 to September 1997I was the spare boiler operator that covered for when the full time operators were o on vacation plus I covered one regular shift per week. Did maintenance and clean up when not operating. I ran 2 coal red high pressure water tube boilers and one NG red water tube boiler. We also cogenerated our own electricity with 2 steam turbine driven generators. The exhaust or tail steam from the generators was used to process raw brine into table salt. I worked in all areas of the plant on a fairly regular basis and gained a vast amount of knowledge about dierent systems and machinery. My other duty when not operating was assisting the meter control technicians with maintenance of the control systems. Ive worked with pneumatic and electronic controllers and have a fairly good understanding of how they work and operate. The coal boilers were converted to natural gas when I was there. That was very interesting and a good learning experience. We had quite a few upsets during the conversion and helped the contractors with ideas to make the boilers work. The company was sold and I was laid o before the sale to even the nancial ledgers. I even volunteered to train my replacement as none of the other operators wanted to do it. They thought it was a betrayal of me.Assistant Manager of Several DiY Lumber yardsand Hardware StoresAssistant Manager of Several DiY Lumber yards andHardware StoresVarious - VariousJanuary 1988 to September 1993I worked at Watkins Lumber, Wickes and Robinson Lumber. I always left each place for a pay raise. I assisted customers (contractors and homeowners). I would recommend parts and design decks for example for homeowners who were unsure of what they were doing. I supervised the sta. Ordered stock and did the daily bookkeeping then took it the bank for deposit. I did whatever was needed at the moment. Education3-1/2 of college-need 2 classes for B.S.
