I started my love affair with having jobs when I was ten delivering the Oakland Tribune. I earned an unsupervised trip to Disneyland before retiring from the newspaper at 12. At 13 I apprenticed under Jim Foley, Rotary Club President, Merchants Association President, Goldsmith and Owner of Given Gold Jewelers and Greetings Card Novelties. By the end of my 13th year I took a weekend job at an espresso house which I worked at until I was 19. FIre and water damage interrupted my apprenticeship and I began baking bagels for Martin Aston, owner of The Edible Complex, Brothers Bagels in Berkeley, and Piedmont Bagel Bakery. I landed a scholarship to a wonderful small Montessori School for my freshman year. Montessori education accelerated me from skirting Cs and Ds to B+ average and reading P.D. Ouspensky. On seeing a picture of a soda jerk in 1941 Fentons Creamery, I became determined to give my rendition of the famous Ice Cream Flip, to be caught in the Tall Sundae Glass. My teen love, Jean, who was an amazing black and white 35mm photographer, immortalized my claim to Soda Jerk God King. Meanwhile, having concluded my general education at Montessori, I began to dream of flying and went to join the AirForce. Much to my disappointment, They suggested I graduate high school or obtain an equivalency. Disgruntled, I gave up on that dream and played music. I returned to Marin County, the native soil and at 16 I quickly promoted to station manager at Redwood Oils 2nd and D street. When I turned 18, after registering for selective service, I joined the Marin Conservation Corps and my blood sweat and tears left my mark on the entire China Camp State Park Trail system. My relentless shoveling earned me the privilege of representing our Corps in St. Paul Minnesota at the National Convention of Job and Service Corps. I chose the perfect drinking buddy, who happily designated me project manager for the complete one day restoration of one of St. Paul's dilapidated parks. One of my proudest achievements to date. Fanfare was short-lived and I joined a folk band and we toured Bay Area coffee houses until I was 23. We were called Lets Eat Billy. I was Billy. Surviving the feast I moved to Santa Cruz, hoping Id receive royalties on the album we made, but were suckered out of having any intellectual or creative rights to. Disgruntled for the second time in my life, I struggled to find my niche in Santa Cruz, until poverty forced my sights to far away Pacific Northwest. My initial intention was to stop in Seattle and try to find a boat to join for crab season. more than ten years later I thanked god I never followed through after watching Deadliest Catch. A spiritual advisory gave me an alert and advised me to deboard in Portland Oregon. She said according to her third sights, I had a life here and I needed to join it. Intrigued by what she told me over the payphone in Redding California, I felt like home was almost in reach. From the moment I stepped off the bus in 1996, to the writing of this in 2024, I attended PSU, met my ex wife, dropped out of college, worked for my in-laws doing engraving and design work for trophies, awards, and sublimations. Following my marriage, I became a Vaishnava Monk teaching bhakti yoga and Krishna Consciousness. I received Ordinations from the Universal LIfe Church as a pagan Minister and chaplain. I volunteered with Alameda County SHeriff's Department for two weeks out of each year, ministering to anyone claiming to be pagan, wiccan, Witchcraft or to be a Magician while incarcerated. I never met any pagans, however, I enlightened many miscreants and ne'er do well Christians. In 2010 I began exterior house painting, Working for my buddys parents Property Management Co. River City Rentals. In 2014 my fiance applied on my behalf to the leading valet company in the US, Towne Park. Mystified and not recalling my ever applying, I went to the interview and started 7 amazing years doing the most enjoyable job ever as a Hotel Valet. I tried my hand at account management. It brought me 20-30 additional hours each week that I couldnt be compensated for due to my being on salary. My job was stressful, disappointing, and tiresome. Not how it was before. Just as I was stepping down from management. The Pandemic Hit. With delayed unemployment I experienced 3 illegal self serve evictions for failure to keep up on my rent. WIth no one there to give you the protections fabled, by the time my former company contracted to assist with traffic, parking, and patient transports, I joined the Vaccination Team while living in my car. Broken Hearted by how harshly I was judged by my colleagues, I entered my 3rd and final disgruntled stage. I received a $10K back payment when Earl Blumenhauers staffer personally got me connected with an unemployment agent. I attempted to buy the first almost new car ever at Broadway Toyota. Unsure if I could even do it, I bypassed the sales team and went to the finance manager who promised me they could help. I only had $1K to pay off. I was working with Postmates, then DoorDash and Instacart and Sent screenshots of 2 years worth of payouts from each app. They requested I try again to submit my financial records and rejected my proof of Income, Threatened my arrest and prosecution if I failed to return the car in 3 days and treated me like I was insane when I couldnt get anyone there to please explain what the issue was. The experience left me feeling traumatized and misunderstood, misperceived, and judged. Post Traumatic Stress from the humiliation of that, plus continuing refusal by Towne Park to allow me to take my job back, I slowly broke down, living in my car. Substance abuse and addiction soon followed. A moment of clarity came to me not 2 weeks ago and I realized I was playing victim. In reviewing my life, I saw I was actually quite amazing. I sought treatment for my drug dependency and am now clean and sober and am taking support medications that would block any attempt I make should I want to get high. Getting a stable happy existence back is more important to me than a few hours of hazy consciousness while appearing like a zombie to the public. Thats frightful. Meanwhile, my driving record is amazing, and my last criminal activity, I am not ashamed to say because I value the practice of full transparency. Although my mistake in 2006 resulted in my plea of no contest to Robbery III Felony class C, a strikeable offense in Californias 3 strikes laws The first opportunity I have with $100 I could afford spending, I can have the whole matter completely expunged from my record, at which point I would be able to apply to Trimet as a bus driver, a lifelong dream. One of my passions and joys is driving, and I am currently seeking the perfect position that does not require the use of my personal vehicle. I am on my 3rd vehicle since pandemic onset, the previous two brought to broken states of disrepair from the wear and tear of deliveries. I no longer have the luxury of doing that type of app work, which otherwise I absolutely enjoyed doing. Having full control of when I work and when I dont is so important to me and I hope I can hang on to that. I am super creative and highly skilled as a writer, (as I am sure youd agree, if Ive captivated you while you read my resume prose.)a musician, a well known local street artist, as well as a mystic. Im reembracing the god consciousness I achieved in the past when living as a monk and on the charity of any well wishers or benefactors wishing to contribute to my welfare. I wish I had even one dedicated person who would sponsor my finishing a book I am currently working on. Not having sponsorship means getting back to work, delaying any predicted time I might finish writing. And I am ok with that. Just having the freedom from addiction makes the little things like no money, no home, no food and a vehicle uninsured, unregistered, not entirely paid off or in my name, and on the verge of major issues, its all petty and each will be resolved in due time.WORK EXPERIENCEWarehouse WorkerApril 2012 - presentThe Salvation Army Portland, ORNonprofit Charitable OrganizationsVolunteer position for the last 9 months, assisting in sorting and pricing antiques and specialty items in the Collectibles Department.
