Cell: PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEStreet Address Del Rio RdDundalk MD Street Address
EMAIL AVAILABLEI have Street Address + years in the field of landscaping. This includes all facets of Maintenance, Installation, Construction, Design, Sales and Supervision. Prior to 1993 I worked for various landscape companies. In 1991 I received a scholarship and started P.G. Community College, taking courses in Horticulture. It was at this point that I seriously decided to pursue a career in Horticulture, specifically landscaping. In 1993 I took the position of Site Supervisor for Lawnscape Systems Inc, overseeing their contract at National Airport. The landscape was designed by Oehme Van Sweden. While I was there I worked closely with the Contract Services Officer and Dr. Tolbert Feather, their Horticultural Consultant. In 1994 became the gardener for Arcola and Kensington Gardens Nursing Homes, in Silver Springs, Md. I worked 20 hours a week at one facility and 20 at the other. I was responsible for all maintenance chores and scheduling for approximately 1.5 acres of turf, .5 acres of beds.In 1995 to take over a landscape maintenance company owned by a friend. Using that as a base I started my own company, D.A.E. Labor Landscaping in December of 1995. I have preformed all duties associated with running a small company; initial start-up, government permits and licensing (federal, state, and local), estimating, all sales, contract negotiations, and about 50% of the actual physical labor. Due to an unmanageable overhead, personal injury without health insurance and an inability to find and retain good help, I had to close the business in December 1997.**During 1998, I worked for Nikita Floyd at Green Forever Landscaping as a Designer/Estimator and Larry Rumford of Good Earth, a friend in the business. In 1999 I worked part-time for several contractor friends until the beginning of the 2000 landscape season. I worked for Greensmiths Inc at their contract at The Franciscan Monastery in N.E D.C. from Feb. 2000 to January 2001.September 2001 to April 2005I was employed by Johnson's Landscaping Service Inc in Bethesda, Md. from September of 2001 to April 2005 and found it to be a quality orientated company. I worked the '01 & '02 seasons as a landscape installer, then developed the position of Maintenance Supervisor (with the blessings of the owner) as the Foreman quit the position and I saw a need within the company to build back up the maintenance side as it had been neglected. My duties included close customer contact, enhancements of maintenance properties and all other work associated with a high-end residential maintenance operation. They can be contacted for references. New Info: Olney MD 301-740-8850Jimmy Johnson CEOApril 2005 to February 2009I was the Warranty Specialist and a salesperson at Homestead Gardens located in Anne Arundel County and did maintenance, design and install estimates. For 2006 I was the supervisor of all retail planting sales as well as performing my other duties. My part time sales for FY 06 topped 70k. My sales totals for '07 were 213K - As of December '08 my sales were at the 225K mark. Due to the economy I was laid-off as the company downsized. Homestead Gardens has a policy of no individual references but, my immediate supervisors for work information would be:Edwin Pena, Landscape Superintendant PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEMike Dudderar, Head of Sales PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEGladys Rodriquez was head of Human ResourcesFebruary 2009 to 2014 & presentI worked with Ofori Landscaping (former Johnsons Landscaping co-worker) on joint projects as Dan the Gardener (2009). I also was hired by Friends of Takoma Recreation Center to design and plant their rain garden project, we planted 1600 perennials in one day, 10/31/09, with a volunteer crew, I made possibly $100.00 from this job.Dan the Gardener is side work for friends, family and fellow garden club members until I secure full time employment and never has been a conflict of interest It is also a way to stay connected to the idea of simply gardening for personal enjoyment. I have many references and completed project pictures from my work as Dan the Gardener. My gross receipts for 2010 were $40,000.00. Im really not interested in running my own business as I tried this over 12 years ago and its just not for me.PresentAs an admin and member of Gardening With Maryland Natives and other local gardening pages I've completed several projects for various clients on weekends and day's off.Amanfo Ofori: PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLE Ann Berman: Friends of Takoma Recreation PHONE NUMBER AVAILABLEMarch 2015 to March 2022I started with Father Nature Restorative Landscaping as a crewman as it was a very small unique company. I was promoted to Senior Foreman beginning the 2016 season. I'm very happy with the job duties, salary and my superiors, but have gone through two winter layoffs so far and am open to other opportunities. We did a lot of rain garden, native restorations and worked almost exclusively with native plants. We tried to practice a more ecologically and environmentally sound type of landscape maintenance. I've worked with the owner to further develop his business model and streamline some of our organizational needs based on my past supervisory and management experience.*From July 2020 to July 2021 I tried a few different companies but couldn't find a good fit for my experience and my desire to advance in my career. I returned to Father Nature part time to fill in for his supervisor out on medical leave.March 2022 to PresentI'm currently a Field Manager at Ruppert Landscape overseeing various high end commercial properties in the Baltimore area. My weekly maintenance visits include all pruning, shearing and shaping of trees and shrubs, weed control of beds, lawn services and IPM. I am happy with my position and the salary and benefits package, but would be greatly interested in exploring other opportunities.RELATED EDUCATION:Prince Georges' Community College; Annuals and Perennials B. Turf-grass Management D Ornamental Horticulture B Landscape Maintenance A. Student in good standing I attended the Community College of Baltimore County for an Associates Of Applied Science in Horticulture in Spring 2010 and hope to take additional courses as time and money permits.EQUIPMENT & OTHER EXPERIENCE:From Bobcat skid steers to all mowing equipment, some hydro-seeding. Ive been trained by a Certified applicator in chemical uses, I.P.M. (i.e. Biological as opposed to chemicals) and am eligible to take the test for Ornamental and Turf, A and C. I have passed the written portion of my Certified Professional Horticulturalist test in 2008. I've recently re certified in CPR and First Aid. I've also have a recent DOT card.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:I have found that I love a challenge and have the ability to work through complex situations, enjoying the process. Multi-tasker, I keep written records, but have never really needed to consult them once duties are understood and objectives have been defined. Im used to dealing with equipment breakdowns, late material deliveries etc. and still keeping my crew productive. My mindset has always been 'by the job' and not 'by the hour Have always had to train employees at every company I've been with and enjoy it, taking time to explain the 'why' behind why we do things certain ways, but stay open to productive suggestions. I have obviously not followed a straight line career path but have had the opportunity to experience a wide range of positions in all aspects of the landscape industry and have enjoyed the experience.**For the my company, I held a Contractor's license through the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (#50823) and a Tree Expert license (#781) through the Dept. of Natural Resources. I was also a member of the Landscape Contractors Association and attended numerous seminars sponsored by Dept. of Natural Resources, L.C.A., George Washington University and others. I try to keep abreast of changes in the field of Horticultural and Landscape practices. I have basic drafting skills and have received many compliments, from people in the industry, on my design skills. I was the editor for a local non-profit newsletter for 2 years and enjoyed putting it together each month. I have also written and been published on a national level, but on non-garden related topics. I have started a garden blog, but just for personal enjoyment.Salary Requirements: My last salary was 40K a year for full time work. Im flexible on pay. Commission is also negotiable.
