I have battled with mental illness being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at age 12. I started dabbling with substances at age 14 and shortly after along came criminal behaviors to support my differ addictions or feed my manic highs. I have been in an out of mental health and drug and alcohol treatment, on and off probation, and in and out of jail. At this point in my life I have been in recovery for one year and I am ready to take the next steps forward in my story. I want to help others, who are at place in life where I have been, give them some of the hope that I was given, and empower them to want to live. I want to be the person to show we can make mistakes but were still worthy of redemption. I want to be a real life example that life is truly what we make of it, and instill the hard truth that recovery is a day to day mission and a battle worth fighting for. I want to give value to individuals that dont have that support person in their corner. The importance of support is huge and coming from someone who has burnt every bridge and struggled to find anyone to socialize with, I know how unbearable the loneliness feels and inspire them to keep going and not give in to the peers and pressures that relapse occurs. My story is by no means things I am proud of but I feel it is important to share where I have been, where I am now, and why I am seeking out employment and wanting to be a Peer Support Specialist. I currently do not have any paid experience as a Peer but I do have years of experience working through the various Temp Agencies.
