Properly label all blood and other body fluid sample using to two patient identifiers. Call providers to verify and/or reconcile patient orders for clarification. Assists specimen processing with multiple functions such as receiving and distributing specimens throughout the laboratory. Communicate with staff if specimens are STAT or LTE. Performs direct patient care duties by directing, instructing, and assisting patients and medical staff with specimen collection and processing of blood samples, urine samples (Urinalysis, culture, urine drug screens, and 24 hour collection) and stool samples (culture, parasitology, etc.). Assist in training of students, nursing staff, medical technologist, and/or new phlebotomy employees rotating through phlebotomy. Maintains records and maintenance in phlebotomy: clean phlebotomy area (chairs, counters, ID calculators), clean glassware, eye wash checks, rotate stock, and restock in on carts and in phlebotomy outpatient room. Report any issues to supervisor.
