Kevin was also Deputy Secretary of Agriculture for Food and Nutrition under Secretary Vilsack in the Obama Administration and recommended me to the Governor of Arkansas where I served as Medicaid Director.After retiring I planned going to medical school. I had a 15 year plan that would have given me the opportunity to work for at least ten years for Doctors without borders. I began to take the necessary science courses at CCRI. But my grades were not high enough to hope for entrance to Med School. I then spent some time working as a VISTA volunteer - but the flu cut that short. I also applied to the Peace Corps and was accepted for a posting in Africa pending passage of the medical exam. I did not pass the medical.I also worked very briefly for the National Indian Health Board in Washington - but they didn't really have anything for me to do that utilized my skills, education and experience and I have no patience for a job that doesn't challenge me especially one which kept me away from my family in Providence.I then began thinking of going back to school for a doctorate in American history - or writing a new textbook on American history especially designed for an MPA program - and began reading history in depth for that purpose.
