Although not currently a member of any bar, I took and passed the bar examinations for DC, MA, RI and NY.I have worked in DC as an aid to several members of Congress and as the Assistant Director for Policy at the Democratic National Committee.I also worked as Director of Research for the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council.I worked for now Senator, then Maine Governor, Angus King and for now Secretary of Agriculture and then Iowa Governor Vilsack both of whom may remember me and can be reached through their DC offices. I was a very active Medicaid Director. Kevin Cannon (EMAIL AVAILABLE) was the Director of Human Services in both Iowa and Maine and was my boss in both states. Kevin was also Deputy Secretary of Agriculture for Food and Nutrition under Secretary Vilsack in the Obama Administration and recommended me to the Governor of Arkansas where I served as Medicaid Director. After retiring I planned going to medical school. I had a 15 year plan that would have given me the opportunity to work for at least ten years for Doctors without borders. I began to take the necessary science courses at CCRI. But my grades were not high enough to hope for entrance to Med School. I then spent some time working as a VISTA volunteer - but the flu cut that short. I also applied to the Peace Corps and was accepted for a posting in Africa pending passage of the medical exam. I did not pass the medical.I also worked very briefly for the National Indian Health Board in Washington - but they didn't really have anything for me to do that utilized my skills, education and experience and I have no patience for a job that doesn't challenge me especially one which kept me away from my family in Providence.I then began thinking of going back to school for a doctorate in American history - or writing a new textbook on American history especially designed for an MPA program - and began reading history in depth for that purpose. That is what I am working on now.I decided recently that a hard, challenging, problem facing job is what I really wanted most of all.Candidate's Name
