My ability to diagnose acute illnesses and provide treatment plans using evidence-based practices and provider judgment increased as services were provided to the patients who sought care. Diagnoses were later confirmed or ruled out with lab results and/or diagnostic testing. Collaborating with other clinicians and making referrals to specialists showed that the best care practices were performed. Being in the same primary care setting for over 2 years to include post-graduation allowed many opportunities to provide care and management of long-term illnesses and diseases to include Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiac Disease, Autoimmune Diseases (Thyroid disease, Lupus, RA), Obesity, Skin/ Wound Care, Cancer, Womens Health, STIs and other infectious diseases, and more. Providing care for those experiencing various modalities further enhanced my desire to care for the Geriatric population, but nothing compared to the exposure and experiences acquired as I was entrusted by my preceptor physician, who was also the Director at Bonterra Transitional Nursing and Rehab in East Point, GA, to provide weekly NP care to her patients during my last semester. My confidence as a competent provider was affirmed while caring for and advocating for the patients at Bonterra, in the office, and via telehealth.
