The yard is the main storage for the rolling stock on the A & C Lines. Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage to the 207th St Yard and tunnels. Due to the relatively low elevations of the yard during the October 29, 2012 Super Storm Sandy, the high-water level at the Harlem River, backed up through the drainage system and resulted in flood waters inundating the eastern half of the yard. Water flowed from the yard like a funnel through the tunnel portal into the subway system, requiring significant repairs of the yard and the subway line. Damages included the power cables, hand switches and duct banks.
