Homeless Shelter Operations
Three years volunteer experience, greeting clients, assigning
beds and bins, resolving disputes, maintaining the building, and,
most of all, providing a substantial breakfast every Thursday
morning. LaCrosse, WI 20012-present.
Nine years as the solo overnight employee at the LaCrosse
Salvation Army Emergency Shelter, a facility which performed no
pre-admission screening apart from an active warrants search
and alcohol test. Issues met included fire, flood, emergency
childbirth, drug dealing and the resultant overdoses, rival gang
altercations, minors attempting to check in, lice infestations,
among a host of others. Duties included community resource
referrals for heating, food pantries, section 8 housing, food
pantries, etc. as well as maintaining statistics in a confidential
database, dispute resolution, inventory, maintenance and meal
preparation, certifying community service hours, assigning
volunteers, and all that was necessary to serve approximately
16,000 clients during my tenure.LaCrosse, WI 1996-2004.
Program Reporting/Positive Positioning
As second vice president of Spinal Cord Injured-Help
Incorporated, I prepared monthly budget and progress reports for
board meetings, compiled statistics for our annual report and
newsletter, helped plan events, and wrote the press releases
which led to LaCrosse s first ever Barrier Awareness Day, an

Serving as a court-appointed guardian of the person and estate,
an ex officio medical guardian, I received reports from a
multidisciplinary team of healthcare/human services
professionals and prepared status and progress evaluations to the
court and Social Security Administration on behalf of a young

At the local officers request, I conducted tours of the facility for
visiting human services professionals from the former Soviet
Republics, providing program information in six languages (I

A mayoral appointee to the Sister Cities Program, I greeted the
mayor of Bantry, Ireland, exchanging information on tax bases,

Heading the LaCrosse office of Akima Linguistic Services, I track
client base, hours worked, service hours provided, and employee
schedules for an organization which provides translation,
interpreting, security/travel advisories, and etiquette/cultural

Currently work with five clients with permanent physical and cognitive disabilities as well as challenging

At LaCrosse Salvation Army originated program to provide birthday gifts and parties for shelter residents.
Also took the breakfast program from coffee and donuts to Eggs Benedict, sausage, steaks, with fresh
flowers and a morning paper while all the while returning money to the kitchen budget.
Team Building Recruitment
In every election and major referendum since 1988, I greeted arriving volunteers and workers, assembled them
into teams, directed their canvassing, made replacements as needed, and reported progress. LaCrosse, WI et al.
With the Gundersen Foundation I recruited donors who helped fund medical research in LaCrosse,
1993-1998.
Serving as a team leader with Akima s Civilians On the Battlefield program, I directed soldiers, civilians,
Afghans, Iraqis, and Eastern Europeans to provide training exercises in an environment which changed by
the minute.
As president of the local chapter of the Tekmarian Club, an organization for those scoring in the top one
percent of standard intelligence tests, I meet with committee members to carry out public service projects.
