Experience
Project Engineer, Diamond Technical Services, Coal City, IL. August 2014-
Current Date
. As an employee for Diamond Technical Services I served as a site
engineer at AKZO-NOBEL in Morris Iliinois in the capacity of Project
Engineer. I was primarily utilized as a mentoring agent. This worked
well as experience was accelerated through my communication on
technical matters as well as relevant personal experiences.
Senior Engineer, Ambitech Engineering, Downers Grove, IL, March 2013-
August 2013
. While working with Ambitech Engineering I was involved in multiple
high priority projects and had the opportunity to be utilized as a on
site Senior Engineer at Lyondellbasell in Morris IL. Lyondellbasell
manufactures low density polyethylene pellets. As a contract Senior
Engineer with Ambitech Engineering I consulted on the Line 3
compressor and extruder project specifying equipment and making
installation recommendations. Specifying Crouse-Hinds 200 amp power
panel for Line 3 and 4 compressors as well as sizing the feeder and
transformer and installation diagrams. I also worked on the new
primary compressor Trabon lubrication system including power supply
routing, sized heat trace equipment for lube oil lines. Reviewing and
modifying PFD's and P&IDs. Finding alternate uses for process
equipment. Making recommendations for the upgrading of equipment.
Integration of new equipment into existing Instrumentation and Control
scheme. Redline drawings for drafting correction. Create
instumentations data sheets for vendor quotation. Review installation
drawings and modify as needed. Review vendor information to confirm
equipment purchase.
Project Specialist, EN Engineering, Woodridge, IL, August 2009-March 2013
. While working at EN Engineering I was involved in multiple projects
and had the opportunity to join teams with many of their brother
companies, including, but not limited to: Central New York Oil and
Gas, Enterprise Pipeline, and Buckeye Pipeline.
. I was given the task to construct the Bristol Controlwave program for
the Central New York Oil and Gas storage field well head metering
building and well heads. I have performed the installation,
configuration and testing of Daniel junior ultrasonic flow meters,
Fisher and Becker control valves programming, as well as Bettis
actuator utilization. There was also operations training and
supervisors on the start up and maintenance of all the above mentioned
equipment. The modbus protocol is utilized heavily in Central Now
York Oil and Gas Pipeline System. Commissioned (9) Daniel Junior
Sonic Ultrasonic meter, dehydration system, pipeline gas heater skid.
. I teamed up with Enterprise Pipeline as lead instrumentation
engineer to upgrade all the satellite software in their system remotes
in five states, covering approximately ninety stations inside of a
month. I came in under budget by twenty five percent and completed
all work ahead of schedule.
. With Buckeye Pipeline I created and completed the station design and
instrumentation engineering for the BP Gate station that joined
Buckeye Pipeline and BP. I managed all specifications and design for
twenty four density meters and trained Buckeyes' technicians on the
installation and maintenance of said meters. By combining my strong
trouble-shooting abilities and communication skills I was able to get
this time sensitive project, completed on time and within budget.
. As the instrumentation engineer for the Central Valley Gas Storage
project I did all the instrumentation data sheets and specifications
for the well head gathering system. I specified all of the
installation and connection diagrams for the instruments. All of the
metering and Gas analysis instrumentation is communicated using
modbus protocol exclusively.
Supplemental Natural Gas Plant, Research & Development, Scada Specialist,
Nicor Gas, Naperville, IL, October 1978-August 2009
. My main role at the Supplemental Natural Gas Plant was monitoring the
day to day operation of the plant instrumentation operations, this
includes but are not limited to: acquiring and analyzing vibration
data from reciprocating compressors, motors, and gas turbines
equipment. The data was acquired by either hand held analyzer or
continuous duty vibration equipment. Operating uitlity plant which
encompassed making process water. This was a 3 Train anion / cation
bed and mixed bed American Water Softener System. This included
regeneration and analysis of the different phases of the process water
making and regeneration process. The final result was very hard water
converted to 1 micromho conductive water that was so clean we had to
add chemical to keep it from drawing minerals out of the steel piping
and boiler tubes. Developing instrumentation data sheets , scaling
transmitters calculating orifice plate specifications, reviewing plant
modification specifications, reviewing P&IDs, electrical drawings,
ladder diagrams., calibration gas quality analyzers (i.e.
chromatographs, MSA CO2 analyzers, BTU analyzers).
. One of my main roles as a Scada Specialist was the supervising of the
field group and also maintaining and monitoring the day to day scada
(Intellution iFix HMI) operation, programming, analyzing and
overseeing installation and maintaining of the data acquisition
equipment, including, installing and tuning of, flow, pressure, and
odorizer control loops (PID). Considered by the department heads to be
the SME (Subject Matter Expert) of the department as far as the scada
group and measurement in general. (i.e. turbine meters, ultrasonic
meters, diamond probar (differntial tube), and orifice plate). I was
responsible for sizing, overseeing installation, and ranging of the
measurement instruments as well as providing operating ranges and
setpoints . The communications method used is Licensed VHF radio
frequency utilizing modbus protocol from each remote station and from
the node to the master controller. Knowledge of storage field concepts
and strategies. I was also utilized as trainer/mentor as the
departments I was connected with had people with 5 years in the
company.
. During my time working as a Scada Specialist I also did specifying and
designing for six major station additions to Nicor's scada system.
This included programming the ROC 809 as well as Bristol Controlwave
to communicate with the scada system as well as specifying Rosemount
transmitters for station information. I also generated control loops
drawings, installation sketches, and both electrical and
instrumentation wiring installation diagrams.
. My ROC 809 program design was not limited to only data management, but
was also used for pressure, flow and odorization control. In some
cases station temperature control was critical and would also be
handled by the ROC 809. The temperature control would be mostly
related to pipeline gas heaters which were responsible for preheating
the gas prior to pressure dropping the pipeline pressure (600 to
730psig) to (230 to 350psig ) for distribution system main pressure.
. Many personal man hours above and beyond the normal were put into
making sure that the system was all it could be. This increased system
operation and reduced down time, saving the company an untold number
of man hours in overtime.
. During my thirty years of dedication to Nicor I also spent six years
in the research and development division maintaining the support
system for instrumentation and special projects. During my time in the
Research and Development I specified and requested quotes on
instrumentation for the pressure departments throughout the company. I
was also involved in the "AMR" system testing. AMR stands for
automated meter reading.
. While in research and development I also developed two patents. The
first being a pressure vault monitoring system and the other patent is
for a pressure monitoring device with high and low alarms for use when
overhauling a pressure vault.
Education and Extra Trainings
. Bachelors degree in electronics, DeVry Institute of technology,
graduating class of 1977.
. Training classes in ISA datasheet specification writing, Modbus
Protocol, Bristol Controlwave programming, Emerson ROC809
programming all taken in 1998.
. I have a first class Federal Communications Commission License
received in 1977.
. I have certificates of completion from the Texas A&M fire school
(water and light water) as well as Ansul
dry chemical school received in 1985.
. I also have a certificate of completion for Fisher valve school
received in 1982.
. I have introductory classes in Allen Bradley PLCs .
