MMC Tech seek a talented
System Support Engineer

to join our dedicated Systems Engineering team in our
Bristol, Chichester, Edinburgh, Leeds or Liverpool
offices.

This is not a Developer role but as a System Support Engineer, we will give you the responsibility for the engineering and support aspects of application middleware components, overseeing the technical design, development and maintenance of application infrastructure components as well as maintaining engineering design standards and a stable application infrastructure environment.

Working collaboratively, with a variety of technical teams, you will be involved with Incident and Problem management, change management, Disaster Recovery planning and implementing, Provisioning of infrastructure and related services, OS and application patching.

Help us implement monitoring solutions for applications and related infrastructure as well as analysing and projecting long-range capacity requirements.
We will look for you to identify opportunities for systems and tools enhancements and automation to aid operational efficiencies also for middleware enhancements, performance tuning, server hardening, etc., via automation to aid operational efficiencies.

As our team provide on-call support of organized changes or incidents & manage Severity 1 production issues, there may be a requirement for some weekend work & extended days on occasion.

What you need to have:

Experience handling large MS .NET and IIS based windows and web applications.
A good awareness of Microsoft .NET technology
Excellent experience administrating applications on Window Servers (2012/2016/2019)
Strong experience in application troubleshooting e.g. reviewing Logs (IIS/Event Viewer/etc.), use of Sys Internals tools, etc.
Good knowledge on patching procedures for Windows OS, .NET, Java, etc.
Exposure to Microsoft SQL server 2016/2019 (including SQL Scripting experience) is preferred


What makes you stand out:

Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies and environments (AWS and Azure) as well as containerization (Docker)
Strong knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
Basic network troubleshooting e.g. experience using listener, netstat, fiddler, trace-routing and reviewing port configuration, etc.
Strong understanding of SSL Certificate management
Experience with application account management (Active Directory service accounts, local accounts, database users)
Strong understanding of DNS and Load Balancing concepts
Experience in at least one end-user ticket management system e.g. Service Now
Experience using monitoring tools such as DataDog, Splunk, etc.
Demonstrable proficiency in patching procedures for OS, .NET, Java, etc.
Good knowledge of cloud computing technologies and environments as well as containerization (Docker)

We will rely on you to:

Systems Management
Provide on-call rotational production technical support, manages severity level 1 issues and implements change controls as well as contributes to production issue resolution.
Ensure application availability, reliability, stability and documents root cause analysis of all in-scope incidents along with recommended corrective action plans.
Participate in OS upgrades, application migrations and projects requiring infrastructure implementation and/or changes.
Assist with application releases and processes.
Create and maintain technical documents such as knowledge base articles, infrastructure diagrams, and FAQs

Compliance and Security
Perform routine housekeeping and health check monitoring within both RedHat/Windows Servers and Application environments: not limited to monitoring of application services, batch processes, backup jobs; archiving of logs, etc.
Respond to security requirements and changes and ensure that they are applied to the systems within area of control.
Carry out account revalidation exercises as required.
Assist with audit reviews and ensure audit requirements and changes are met, collaborating with various business and application teams as necessary.
Maintain audit compliance and reporting procedures.

Process improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities for systems and tools enhancements and automation to aid operational efficiencies.
Identify opportunities for middleware enhancements, performance tuning, server hardening, etc. via automation to aid operational efficiencies.
Contribute to group/team wide improvement initiatives.
