Position: Full-Time Patrol Officer
Salary: Starting rate $31.73-$37.51/hour ($65,998-$78,020/year) DOQ

The department includes 16 full-time sworn officers and 13 civilian staff, along with a range of specialized roles such as Detective, School Resource Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Accident Reconstruction Officer, K-9 Unit, and SWAT Team member. Officers are represented by the Ohio Patrolmans Benevolent Association, which supports competitive wages and benefits.
Area Information Oberlin is a 4.92-square-mile college town in Lorain County, Northeast Ohio, intersected by State Routes 58 and 511 and US 20. Home to Oberlin College and Conservatory, Oberlin features a charming downtown, light industrial parks, and multiple commerce districts. Job Requirements Age: Minimum 21 years Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or legal intention to become one Education: High school diploma or GED required Drivers License: Valid Ohio drivers license with proof of insurability Language: Proficient in reading and speaking English Academy Certification: OPOTA certification preferred but not required Physical Agility Certification: Valid certification from OPOTA or Cuyahoga Community College may be accepted in lieu of the departments agility test Pre-Employment Requirements: Successful completion of a background check, drug screening, and medical examination.
Hiring Process Application Submission: Complete the employment application with all supplemental documents online by the specified deadline. Written Exam: Take the Written Exam through NTN, requiring a passing score of 70% to proceed to the Physical Agility Test. Appeals: Applicants may appeal grading within seven days of notification if there is a dispute with the exam results. Physical Agility Test: Administered by the Oberlin Police Department and scored as pass/fail. Standards are available in the departments Physical Fitness Standards. Candidates who pass both exams are placed on the eligibility list, ranked by score. The Civil Service Commission will certify and post the eligibility list. Selections for interview will follow, starting from the top-ranked candidates as vacancies arise.
