Position Title: Full-Time Firefighter and Lateral Transfers Location: Rossford Fire and Rescue, 133 Osborn Street, Rossford, OH 43460 Application Deadline: Ongoing until positions are filled
Job Description Rossford Fire Department seeks dedicated individuals to join as full-time firefighters. Serving since 1915, the department covers a 5.33 square mile area, supporting a population of around 6,500, which doubles with visitors and workers. Responding to approximately 1,300 calls annually, firefighters ensure community safety through fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and public education.
Key Responsibilities Prompt response to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other assistance calls Safe operation of firefighting and rescue equipment Conduct fire suppression tasks including hose advancement, pump operation, and fire extinguishment Provide emergency medical care and first aid Perform fire prevention inspections and educate the public on fire safety Participate in ongoing training and drills Maintain station and equipment readiness Collaborate with team members and agencies during emergencies Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent Valid Ohio driver's license with a clean record Ohio Firefighter I or II certification Ohio EMT-B or higher certification Physical capability to handle strenuous tasks and high-stress situations Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills Dedication to public service and community safety Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in firefighting or a related field Advanced certifications (Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, Paramedic) Familiarity with Rossford and surrounding areas First-Year Requirements EMTs must attend Advanced EMT training and pass National Registry for Ohio Advanced EMT Certification Firefighter I certified individuals must complete Firefighter II Transition Training Salary and Benefits Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications:
Years of Experience EMT Advanced EMT Paramedic 0 $20.50/hr $22.75/hr $25.00/hr 1 $21.00/hr $23.75/hr $26.00/hr 2 $21.50/hr $24.75/hr $27.00/hr 3 $22.00/hr $25.75/hr $29.00/hr Health, dental, and vision insurance Retirement options Paid time off and holiday pay Ongoing training and professional development 24/72 schedule Application Process Lateral Transfers: Applicants with at least three years of full-time service or five years of combined full-time/part-time service as a Firefighter/EMT are exempt from the written test but must provide employment history and proof of physical ability test completion.
Others: Applicants must complete a civil service test through the National Testing Network.
Additional test score percentages apply for:
Veterans (20%) with DD214 form National Guard personnel (15%) with proof of service Rossford part-time and volunteer firefighters (3%) Advanced EMTs (3%) Paramedics (5%) Proof of physical agility test completion is also required (NTN Firefighter Mile or Cuyahoga Community College PAT).
