POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing Engineer
EXEMPTION STATUS: Salaried Exempt
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Project Engineer
GRADE: E
SUMMARY:
This individual is engaged in continuing improvement projects including process improvements, cost reductions (both product and process), work cell layout and inventory reductions. This individual supports manufacturing process development and evaluation including fabrication methods and procedures, material usage, work routing, and troubleshooting. This individual is engaged in tooling, materials, and equipment justification for cost reductions. This individual supports integration of new products into existing manufacturing cells.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Active participation in conducting I.E. projects for feasibility studies, cost estimating or new process development.
- Prepare bill of materials/special jobs and coordinate with Purchasing and Material Control to optimize material usage.
- Determine tooling requirements and method of production and initiate, if necessary, proper procedures to acquire them.
- Coordinate manufacturing changes required by approved Engineering Change Order (ECO).
- Conduct value analysis studies to improve materials, processes equipment needs and make appropriate recommendations to supervisor, prepare data incidental to requests for Capital Equipment, conduct manufacturing cost studies and estimates, as requested.
- Evaluate existing methods of operations, routings, processes, tooling, etc., and recommend and/or initiate changes or modifications to update and achieve optimum operating efficiencies and manufacturing economies.
- Meet with and assist Cell Coordinators and other staff personnel in matters related to assigned manufacturing engineering functions, e.g., product design changes, standardization of parts and tooling, budgets, cost reduction, quality control, plant layout, material movement, packaging, etc.

Advises supervisor of concerns, problems and progress of work in a timely manner. CONTACTS (Internal and External):
This position has extensive and routine contact with shop employees, cell coordinators and design personnel. There will be moderate contact with sales and marketing, customer service support, research & development, purchasing and quality functions. Most communication will include written, phone, and email. There will be limited telephone, email or personal contact outside of company with suppliers.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum of a BS in Engineering is required. Basic skills in ergonomics, time & motion studies, clear writing and verbal communication, cost estimating, lean concepts and computer-aided drawing is required. Advanced skills in measurement system analysis, SPC, advanced analytical techniques, and negotiation are a plus.
Abilities: Must be a “hands on” oriented individual comfortable working and communicating among metal fabrication professionals.
Experience: Up to 2 years work experience in manufacturing engineering, design engineering, production supervision, or closely related field in a metal fabricating industry.
Supervision: Works under general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or his designee.
Responsibility: Exercise a limited degree in judgment as defined by the supervisor. The general results and effectiveness of assigned operations are subject to supervisory examination and review. All questionable matters referred to supervisor.
