Principal Process Engineer / Chemical Engineer (Energetics) Engineering Tampa, FL (prefer onsite but will consider remote in SC, NC, TX, FL, TN, IA, VT) $140-190K About Our Company We are, at our core, an engineering firm dedicated to the advancement of novel manufacturing solutions in the commercial, defense, and aerospace industries. Job Summary The Principal Process Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing industrial manufacturing processes and systems for our energetics related Programs and Operations. This role involves working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, acting as lead for the discipline, and providing the expertise to support the design and operation of high-risk processes while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities 1. Process Design and Optimization: - Develop and implement process designs and improvements to increase efficiency and productivity. - Lead and/or participate in capital projects of varying scope and complexity as the subject matter expert for manufacturing process technologies, logistics, and process flow. - Conduct process simulations and analysis to optimize performance and reduce waste (material, labor, energy). - Identify and resolve process bottlenecks and inefficiencies. 2. Technical Support: - Serve as technical support lead to manufacturing and production teams. - Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues, focusing on minimizing hazards and ensuring operational continuity. - Monitor process performance data to recommend and implement improvements and corrective actions. - Conduct and/or support incident or quality investigations using RCCA methodologies and implement corrective and preventive actions. 3. Project Management: - Lead and manage projects aimed at improving processes, introducing new technologies, or expanding capabilities related to energetic materials. - Develop project plans, manage budgets, and ensure projects adhere to safety and regulatory standards. - Collaborate with and sometimes lead cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and timelines. 4. Compliance and Safety: - Ensure all processes comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices specific to energetic materials and explosives. - Conduct risk assessments, implement safety solutions/protocols, and oversee safety training to maintain a safe working environment. - Stay current with industry developments and regulatory changes to apply best practices and ensure compliance. - Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses and provide relevant process safety information. 5. Documentation and Reporting: - Prepare and maintain detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process flow diagrams. - Generate regular reports on process performance, improvements, and project status for management review. 6. Training and Development: - Coach, train and mentor team members on process techniques, best practices, and safety procedures. - Create internship project plans and select, coach and mentor interns through project completion. - Develop and update training materials to ensure team proficiency and adherence to safety standards. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. - 15+ years of experience in a process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a similar role. A minimum of 3 years' experience in Energetic, Explosive, and/or hazardous material process design and manufacturing. - Expert knowledge of process design, optimization, and control. - Expert level skills in process simulation software and data analysis tools. - Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies including root cause and corrective/preventive action determinations and processes. - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. - Experience with explosive material safety systems, controls, and requirements. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - In-depth understanding of industry regulations, safety standards, and explosive materials handling. Including, demonstrated experience with the elements of OSHA PSM. - Experience working on/within DoD contract environments and regulations, such as DOD 4145. Preferred Skills - Advanced degree or certifications related to relevant engineering discipline. - Experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of modern manufacturing facilities to include equipment selection, process control system architecture and functionality verification, Hazard Analyses (i.e. PHA, LOPA, etc.), P&ID development/review, and equipment commissioning activities. Other Requirements - Travel: <20%, to support other locations manufacturing sites, suppliers and customers. - Work Environment: Office work environment. - Background Investigation / Drug Screen: Required.
