Job Description:

Role: Senior Data Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Job type: FTE/Permanent

Responsibilities

• Engineering solutions to aggregate and automate large-scale data flows from varying sources


• Working as part of a cross-functional team (Product, Data Science and Data Integration) to build scalable data solutions


• Work with product owners in an agile environment to analyze requirements and translate them into functioning software


• Provide mentoring to and collaboration with other team members


• Provide technical leadership to more junior team members

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related quantitative fields, or equivalent experience


• 5-10 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related field (i.e., Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Warehouse Developer, Data Scientist, etc.) with a strong track record of working with large datasets


• Expertise in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing plus hands-on experience with different data warehouse and processing technologies such as AWS Redshift, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Spark, etc.


• Hands-on experience with cloud computing and Linux-based systems


• Demonstrable skills and experience using SQL with large data sets (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Redshift)


• Proven track record of successful communication of data infrastructure, data models, and data engineering solutions through written communication, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams


• Shows curiosity and an ability to learn quickly, especially new technology and processes


• Approaches all work with a team-based/collaborative orientation

Bonus Points

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative fields


• Experience with AWS technologies Redshift, RDS, S3


• Experience with reporting tools like Tableau, Excel, or other BI packages


• Familiarity with statistical models and data mining algorithms


• Experience with ETL tools including Pentaho, Talend, or Informatica
