Position Details:
The Cardiac Surgical Service is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join their team at Hartford Hospital. The successful candidate will support patient care from the point of admission to discharge.
Duties include managing all pre-operative and post-operative patients within Hartford Hospital, performing H&P, assessing and documenting patient progress, participating in attending rounds, collaborating with a variety of consultants and specialties, and engaging in independent decision-making. This position requires management of emergency situation, care of a variety of cardiac surgical patients including all types of Durable Cardiac Assist Devices and heart transplants. The 9 bed Surgical Step Down includes patients who have high acuity and complexity. These patients require vigilant and consist management.

Setting: Inpatient, cardiac surgical services

Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioner Role Scope:
Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Advanced Practitioners perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.
In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Advanced Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.
Advanced Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the providers practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.
