Position Overview:

Flow is seeking a highly skilled and highly motivated Senior Database Engineer Intern to join our engineering organization. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong experience in database engineering and a passion for developing complex, high-performance database systems. As a Senior Database Engineer Intern, you will play a crucial role in designing, optimizing, and managing our databases to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability. This position is ideal for individuals currently pursuing or have obtained a Master's degree in Computer Science with a strong background in databases and Django development. The internship is remote-only and requires a commitment of at least 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

ER Diagramming: Create and maintain complex Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams to visualize and model the database architecture.
Schema Development: Design and develop database schemas that support the business requirements and ensure data integrity.
Relational Database Management: Manage and maintain relational databases, ensuring data is stored efficiently and securely.
PostgreSQL Management: Administer and optimize PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
Database Optimization: Implement strategies for database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing to enhance system efficiency.
Database Normalization: Apply normalization techniques to minimize redundancy and dependency, optimizing database structure.
Data Migration: Plan and execute data migration strategies for transferring data between different systems or databases.
Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
Security Management: Ensure database security by implementing best practices for data protection, access control, and encryption.
Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for database designs, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge transfer and ease of maintenance.

Qualifications:

Masters degree in Computer Science.
2-3+ years of experience in database engineering, with a focus on relational databases and schema development.
Expert in PostgreSQL and other relational database management systems.
Expert in ER diagramming and database normalization techniques.
Expert with database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
Expert with data migration, backup, and recovery processes.
Expert problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
