All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements Must be between 16 and 56 years old Must have a university degree OR currently enrolled in an accredited Canadian university and Must be a Canadian citizen OR permanent resident. You will be required to join the Canadian Army Reserve to be employed in this position. This is NOT a civilian placement. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers maintain and support all Army equipment. They are commissioned members of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers lead the soldier technicians who keep equipment in top condition and work in every equipment life-cycle phase, from design, evaluation, and acquisition through in-service support to eventual disposal. Their duties involve leading staff and providing specialized engineering knowledge. They lead a team of highly skilled technicians of the Vehicle, Weapon, Electronic-Optronic and Materials occupations. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers experience the unique adventures and challenges that come with working in different environments. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers are employed at bases and garrisons across Canada and on deployed operations around the world. In the field or on deployment they may work outdoors. Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers are first posted generally to a large workshop, where they lead a group of up to 30 technicians who maintain a wide range of equipment. Under the guidance and supervision of more senior officers they make the technical, administrative, and training decisions for their team. Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officers, or RCEME Officers, are leaders in the field, commanding groups of vehicles, weapons, electronic-optronic and materials technicians who are responsible for maintaining military equipment. Reserve Force members usually serve part time at a Reserve Force Division in their community and may serve while going to school or working at a civilian job. They are paid during their training. They are not posted or required to do a military move. However, they can volunteer to move to another base. They may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada. As a reservist, you will work one night a week, one weekend per month during the September to April timeframe. There may be opportunities for more employment throughout the year however that is not guaranteed. We offer full time summer employment, beginning 1 May until 31 Aug, this is a great opportunity for students. All successful applicants will be required to complete the Basic Military Qualification course (BMQ), either part time, (Friday to Sunday every other weekend for 11 weekends) normally held between September and March or full time in the summer (Monday to Friday) for 5 weeks. Followed by a two-week Basic Military Officer Qualification course. The next summer the successful applicant will attend the Basic Military Officer Qualification LAND course for 11 weeks. Upon completion of the Basic Military Qualification Course, candidates will be required to attend the Electrical Mechanical Engineering Officer training course for 17 weeks. This course is run during the summer and all candidates are required to reside in the barracks for the duration of the course.
