The primary purpose of the job position is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Recommend establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance
Interpret policies and objectives of nursing service to staff
Promote working relationships with community agencies and with other departments
Perform personnel management functions such as establishing personnel qualification requirements, drafting procedure manuals, initiating in-service programs and installing record and reporting systems
Initiate studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services
