The Registered Nurse provides age-appropriate, culturally, and ethnically sensitive care, maintains a safe environment, educates patients and their families about healthy practices and treatment modalities, assures continuity of care, coordinates care across settings and among caregivers, manages information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. Utilizes the nursing process to provide and plan care (i.e., assessment, nurse diagnosis, planning and coordination, implementation, and evaluation). Additional roles include advocacy, performance improvement, leadership, problem-solving, delegation, conflict resolution, and team player.

Hours: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Case Load: 30 cases/day, Adult, Geriatric

Skills: MS/Tele

Diagnosis/Procedures: General gastroenterology and diagnostic studies, biliary endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, and other specialized procedures: Colonoscopy, EGD, EUS, ERCP, Bronchoscopy

Top 10 Medications: Fentanyl, Versed, Demerol, Zofran

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Pre-Procedure and Procedure 1:1, Phase II recovery 1:3

Common Equipment: Cardiac monitoring equipment, Endoscopy / Bronchoscopes

Skills: BLS, ACLS, IV Insertion Preferred skills: BLS, ACLS, Tele Interpretation, IV Insertion

EPIC Charting

Department Orientation:

• Will depend on previous experience, 1 week with prior experience in Pre and Post, 2 weeks if previous experience in procedure rooms.
• RN preceptor for 2-3 days in Pre and Post care areas, if previous experience in procedure rooms and will be working that area, 1 week with a preceptor in procedure room as well.
