Southern Utah University, located in Cedar City, Utah, seeks an Assistant Professor of Chinese.

Duties: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in modern and classical Chinese language, Chinese literature, culture, and history, Sinophone Studies, and comparative literature and film. Assign homework, tests, and grades. Create and oversee a Chinese minor program, which includes recruiting and retaining new students. Engage in scholarly research and writing and professional development activities. Make scholarly contributions to the discipline by presenting at academic conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Advise and mentor students. Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned. Create and lead a Study Abroad program in Taiwan or China. Travel to Taiwan or China to support the study abroad program for two to four weeks a year.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Comparative Literature with a focus on Chinese literature and culture or related area. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. Must have required degree by start date. One year experience as a university Chinese Teacher in teaching or acting as a teaching assistant for college-level Chinese, teaching in subject areas at the university level during or after Ph.D. studies. Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English. Must be willing to make scholarly contributions to the discipline by presenting at academic conferences and producing scholarly work that leads to publication in peer-reviewed journals. Must be willing to create and lead a Study Abroad program in Taiwan or China. Must be willing to travel to Taiwan or China to support a study abroad program for two to four weeks a year.
