Classification: Patrol Officer

The Napoleon Police Department is establishing a continuous list for Entry Level or Lateral Police Officer / Patrolman Grade for 2024. This list will allow candidates who apply and complete the necessary steps to remain on the Civil Service list for two years.

All candidates (excluding Lateral Transfers) must complete the candidate PHQ and take the FrontLine National exam through the National Testing Network (NTN) by the specified deadline. Candidates with a passing score of 70% must complete the physical agility test, scheduled quarterly based on the applicant pool. Those certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy within two years or as a lateral police officer are exempt from the physical agility test. Lateral transfers are also exempt from the NTN test; they can send their application and resume directly to the City of Napoleon.

Extra Credit: Candidates who pass may earn up to 10% additional credit for qualifications such as veteran status, college degree, OPOTA certification, or three years of Auxiliary Police service with the Napoleon Police Department.

Lateral Police Officer: An officer appointed as a full-time Patrol Officer, certified by OPOTA or equivalent, whose last position was a law enforcement role.

Salary Information:

The salary range for 2024 is $23.24-$31.54 per hour.
Lateral candidates will receive pay commensurate with their years of service, according to these steps:
Patrol Officer Academy - $23.24
Patrol Officer Step A - $25.83
Step B - $27.71
Step C - $29.38
Step D - $31.54

Lateral candidates receive 80 hours of vacation upon hire and accrue vacation based on their previous employer's service rate during their first year.

Department Overview:
The Napoleon City Police Department serves the City of Napoleon, Ohio, the largest populated area in Henry County, located along the Maumee River. The department comprises 24 members, including the Chief, Assistant Chief, Lieutenant, Sergeants, Detectives (Major Crimes & Narcotics), Patrol Officers (including School Resource and K9 Officers), and Dispatchers. The department also has an Auxiliary Police Force that assists with crowd and traffic control and provides backup to the patrol division. The department operates 24/7, dispatching for the police department, Napoleon Fire and Rescue services, and the enhanced 911 system for the city.

Vision: Must have good hearing and eyesight with or without corrective measures
Academy Certification: Must be State of Ohio certified as a Peace Officer at the time of appointment
Necessary Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Drivers License.
Must be certified to carry a firearm and maintain the ability to carry a firearm on duty.
Must be certified as an Ohio Peace Officer by the State of Ohio at the time of appointment and maintain certification.
Ability to obtain and maintain necessary state certifications for Police Officer.
