POSITION SUMMARY



 



Reporting to the Vice President of Architecture and Infrastructure, the Senior Director of Platform Services is responsible for assisting in setting strategy, implementation, support and operationalizing best practices around our technology platforms. At NYU Langone Health, we leverage storage, compute, memory, virtualization, UNIX, Windows, databases as well as both public and our own private cloud technology that cater to our clinical, administrative, education and research staff. The Senior Director will partner with the architecture team to align various platforms to meet our application needs. This includes performing assessments and be the liaison with key strategic partners/vendors to ensure that these platforms are maintained and always within accepted vendor guidelines to keep the technology debt at agreed upon levels.



 



This role will provide structure and leadership to manage team priorities, streamline work efforts, manage business expectations and communicate status to leadership.  As a member of the infrastructure management team, you will also have the chance to offer new thinking on how we refresh our platform technology.  Platform Services is comprised of plan-build-run for servers, storage platforms, virtualization platforms, databases and our private and public cloud platforms.



 



The individual should be comfortable working across all of NYU Langone Health’s business units to implement, enhance and maintain platform technologies.  This individual will leverage the latest recognized technologies and processes and will execute a multi-year roadmap to deliver these services.



 



III.       POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Increase the effectiveness of NYU Langone Health technology platforms by building strategies and delivering value:

    • Develop an understanding of the platform technologies currently in use and the business use cases that they serve; identify white spaces in them and evaluate how they can be mitigated

    • Ensure focus on continuous improvement of our various platforms, based on latest market trends, to develop a roadmap for a collaborative scalable organization

    • Evaluate the platform services technologies market, analyze the impact on employee production and regularly evolve roadmaps for these platforms

    • Work closely with MCIT architects and formulate strategies on how platforms can improve employee satisfaction and productivity

    • Identify how public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure or Google can simplify, improve, automate or lessen ongoing operational costs

    • Assess the latest market trends on backups, virtualization, computing, clouds, and evaluate how they can be incorporated to improve Platform Service

    • Communicate effectively within and across multiple teams including vendors when required





 




  • Drive cultural change and increase collaboration levels within the organization:

    • Provide leadership across the function, while driving performance improvement, building technical capability and developing talent

    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement that proactively manages resolution of serious and complex problems, identifying underlying causes and performing corrective action appropriately

    • Help define and deliver strategies and solutions for Platform Services transformation, including the vision, roadmap and governance model

    • Implement an overarching, rein in emerging technologies, optimize capital and operating costs and provide new and enhanced customer experiences for employees and clients (i.e. Windows Operating System, Unix, Citrix, Oracle Databases, Microsoft SQL, etc.)

    • Provide the rapid integration of emerging technologies and innovation, allowing our internal/external applications to access their data securely anywhere and anytime

    • Leverage cloud or hybrid services appropriately to gain efficiencies and drive to building a sing pane of glass to manage the platform technology 





IV.       SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS



 



Demonstrated proficiency within a diverse technology environment:




  • Deep experience in Virtualization Infrastructure environments (Citrix, VMWare, etc.)

  • Deep experience in Storage platforms environments (DellEMC, NetApp, IBM, HPE, etc.)

  • Deep Unix experience (Red Hat, Oracle, etc.)

  • Self-driven, extremely energetic individual who has the vision of enhancing employee productivity by leveraging the latest in technology

  • Technical expertise in private and public clouds

  • Able to communicate complex technical information and implications in business-oriented language

  • Experience in ITIL process framework

  • Substantial experience in deploying and managing large scale platform technology solutions at a senior level, with a proven track record of managing technology development, implementation, change and service delivery

  • Proven track record of exerting significant influence on business and technology partners for deploying large scale transformation programs for enhanced collaboration in a healthcare organization (would also consider a financial services firm)

  • A demonstrable degree of creativity and latitude, to work cross-functionally across different divisions

  • Previous experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams across multiple locations and geographies for large and complex environments

  • Industry experience with multiple vendors, as well as having connectivity with various forums and experts

  • Knowledge of developing, setting, and driving standards, while operationalizing various technologies.                                                                                                                                                            

  • Able to communicate complex technical information and implications in business-oriented language

  • Act as a catalyst for change by identifying opportunities for business and/or IT performance improvement



 



V.        EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



 




  • B.S. degree in information systems, computer science or related field

  • 15+ years of experience in the IT arena, with 10+ years of leadership experience

  • Intimate knowledge of distributed systems technologies such as server, storage, desktop, enterprise monitoring tools architecture

  • Health care experience a plus; understanding of the requirements of an integrated academic medical center

  • Experience managing a team of 50+ staff

  • Experience managing multiple projects and initiatives

  • Industry vendor knowledge and established relationships

  • Effective speaker, collaborative worker and good writing skills

  • Able to translate complex technical information and implications in business-oriented language



Experience with architecture review board governance structure
