Senior Research Manager, Wood Mackenzie, Inc., Boston, MA:

Use power market forecasting processes and analyze competitors’ advantages and disadvantages comparatively to contribute to market strategy development for the team. Ensure high-quality delivery of non-daily operational tasks such as Marketing Insights or Consulting Projects. Identify and develop objective market insights using data and expertise from multiple regional teams leveraging existing reports and analytical capabilities, including but not limited to, PowerBuyer reports, congestion tables, and generation stack awareness. Drive commercial activity growth through providing product demos as a subject matter expert in PowerIQ, CongestionIQ, PowerRT, Bid Data and API platforms and develop material for new product releases. Prioritize product enhancements, including coordination with Research Managers and the larger Power & Renewables team requiring a detailed understanding of proprietary Report Generator and SEER platforms, underlying code and data availability to create consistent product offerings across all regions. Provide technical and operational assistance for the market intelligence team including troubleshooting bugs in code or workbooks, creating new data streams if not available, and supporting morning processes in multiple ISOs.

Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days a week.

Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Energy and Sustainability, and 5 years of related work experience; OR Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Energy and Sustainability, and 3 years of related work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 3 years of experience in each of the following:

• North American power sector, including experience working with more than one regional electric grid Independent System Operator (ISO) or Regional Transmission Operator (RTO);
• Conducting power asset economic modelling for multiple technologies, including solar, wind, natural gas and battery storage;
• Forecasting and analyzing underlying drivers for nodal price separation or congestion within North American power markets;
• Power flow and economic modeling platforms and user interfaces that deliver energy fuel supply and Locational Marginal Price (LMP) expectations for North American Power Markets;
• Building statistical and economic models to forecast generation and transmission patterns as well as power market pricing and congestion expectations; and
• Programming using Python, Visual basic, or SQL.

Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

• Developing, preparing and presenting training materials on power sector market intelligence; and
• Developing, preparing, and presenting at company briefings, client-facing product demos, or to the larger Power & Renewables group on Market Intelligence findings and congestion analytic capabilities.

Domestic travel required up to 10%.
