Responsible to apply scientific principles of learning and behavior to ameliorate school-related problems, and to facilitate the learning and development of children and provide services to children, parents, teachers, the school system and community agencies. Detailed job duties include:

 Perform psycho-educational assessment and diagnosis of specific learning emotional and developmental disabilities for children from birth to age 22 who demonstrate evidence of significant learning difficulties.
 Interpret and discuss diagnostic test results with parents, staff and community professionals.
 Provide written reports of diagnostic findings and recommendations of multidisciplinary team.
 Specify educational goals and remedial techniques for reducing the handicapping effect of the Special Education student's disability and for enhancing student strengths.
 Collaborate with school and parents to provide learning/behavioral interventions.
 Chair initial IEP meetings, triennial reviews and other meetings as requested.
 Consult with and assist Educational Services Directors, District administrators, resource specialists designated instructional service instructors, special education teachers and regular classroom teachers as needed.
 Inform parents of their due process rights, respond to their concerns and assist them in understanding their child's strengths and weaknesses so that they may take an active role in implementing educational plans.
 Place individuals with exceptional needs in the least restrictive environment.
 Monitor and facilitate implementation of the Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
 Manage and monitor Special Education placements in and out of the District.
 Coordinate with colleges and universities visitations, observations and supervision of graduate students who are participating in field work and internship programs. Monitor, report and resolve compliance requirements.
 Carry out assigned duties as requested by Educational Services Directors and Manager of Special Education.
 Cooperate with community agencies, including mental health, psychiatric facilities and developmental centers.
 Provide in-service training for Directors, the Board of Education, site administrators, teachers and others as needed, regarding Special Education requirements, procedures, legal implications and other topics.
 Assist in the interviewing and hiring of Special Education staff. Manage and research placements of students outside the District with other districts, the COE, state and private programs.
 Develop and modify District curriculum to meet the needs of Special Education students.
 Serve on District and Special Student Services committees.
 Attend and contribute to the Special Education Team Meetings.

Salary: $83,500 - $154,560 per year.

Minimum job requirements: Master’s degree in School Psychology, Applied Psychology or related field and valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Psychology Certification issued by California Commission for Teacher Credentialing.
