This position provides law enforcement and public safety services to the College community. The primary objective of the Campus Public Safety Officer is to provide a safe and secure environment for all members of the College community by means of an alert and vigilant prevention patrol. This is a sworn Law enforcement position and requires carrying a firearm. A Public Safety Officer in the Pittsburgh Technical College Police Department patrols assigned areas of property used, owned or occupied by Pittsburgh Technical College.

Associate degree is preferred but not required in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or appropriate related field.

Act 120 training required

Act 235 Certification or waiver from the PA State Police.

First Aid, CPR and AED certifications must be up to date.

Minimum of two years experience in law enforcement or in the security field

Patrol campus and leased property by vehicle and foot

Respond to calls for service

Respond to Fire alarms

Respond to emergencies on campus

Patrol both on and off campus buildings to assure proper security of the same, including, but not limited to, locking and unlocking of facilities; deterring theft, vandalism and loitering; and of general buildings and grounds security issues.

First responder when medical situations occur

Reports observed irregularities such as presence of unauthorized people, fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured entries and faulty equipment.

Writes reports and maintains accurate records of incidents they encounter.

Must wear PTC police uniform; provided by department.

Must have valid driver’s license and car insurance

Must pass the PA Act 153 background check and motor vehicle check prior to employment.

Additional qualifications:

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must be at least 21 years of age

Must have good vision, hearing, strength and agility

Must enjoy working with people and meeting the public

Personal characteristics require honesty, sound judgment, integrity and a sense of responsibility.

• Officers will be required to work a rotating shift schedule

• Coverage is required 24 hours per day seven (7) days per week.

• Officers will be scheduled to work 20 – 29 hours per week.
