Job Summary:
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves conducting safety training, performing site inspections, investigating incidents, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs and policies in accordance with OSHA, TxDOT, and USDOT regulations.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of job sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Provide safety training and education to employees, including the TxDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Certification and other relevant certifications.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to integrate safety practices into project planning and execution.
Ensure that all safety equipment and materials are available and in good working condition.
Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety protocols and encourage employee participation.
Stay current on industry best practices, regulations, and advancements in safety management.
Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure preparedness.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety management role within the construction industry, with a focus on traffic control and highway construction.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification preferred.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health certification required.
TxDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Certification required.
Strong knowledge of OSHA, TxDOT, USDOT, and state-specific safety regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to travel to various job sites across Texas as needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Working Conditions:
The Safety Manager will spend a significant amount of time on construction sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and terrain.
Regular travel within Texas
Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary to address emergencies or meet project deadlines.
