Position: Senior Crew Leader - D&C Department: Distribution & Conveyance PAYGRADE: 107 (NE) Pay: Starts at Min $26.598 / Mid $33.912 / Max $41.226 hour DEADLINE: Tuesday, September 10, 2024 Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this classification is to lead an assigned crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing installation, maintenance and repair work on CCWA water distribution infrastructure and related systems. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations. Receives and reviews work orders: reads and interprets blue prints, roadway plans, and related documentation; determines and gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies needed to conduct work activities; ensures availability of adequate parts and materials to conduct work activities; and initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required. Monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates setup of work safety zones to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations. Leads and participates in the installation of new and replacement of water lines: reads and interprets complex roadway plans; determines horizontal and vertical locations of new mains; coordinates staking activities for projects; updates changes made in the water system on master blue prints; coordinates relocation activities with state agencies and contractors; troubleshoots and resolves conflicts; surveys work areas before work begins; confirms location of utilities before starting excavation; ensures installations adhere to CCWA and water quality standards; flushes and sterilizes water lines. Performs related duties: checks and completes street cut repair orders; assists in the coordination of work activities of sub-contractors; supervises temporary laborers; and coordinates work activities with other CCWA departments and outside agencies as needed. Maintains assigned equipment: performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment, sharpening blades, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, etc.: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; and maintains related records and logs. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, and maintains work orders, inspection reports, after-hours reports, repair reports, purchasing card forms, locate forms, work logs, etc. Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Operates large excavator and uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains excavator, wheel loaders, bulldozer, crew truck, dump truck, lo boy, and other tools and equipment. Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Additional Functions: This position may require on call assignments. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in construction or a related field; supplemented by two years of experience in installation and maintenance of water distribution systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
