Join our team as the Nature Study Area Development Coordinator VISTA and play an integral role in raising funds to restore a decommissioned golf course into a wetland and nature study area.

About Us

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing our communities' livability through public engagement, education, and the sustainability of our parks, open spaces, and trails. We focus on improving community health and wellness and fostering an appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks. We especially strive to increase access to free programming for low income community members, in order to improve education and health outcomes for people living in poverty.

Responsibilities

As the Nature Study Area Development Coordinator VISTA, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Research, write, and report on grants to support the proposed Nature Study Area
  • Develop protocols for cultivating and stewarding major donors of the proposed Nature Study Area
  • Co-coordinate and spearhead a signature special event to fundraise and create awareness for the proposed Nature Study Area
  • Research wetland restoration best practices, biodiversity, and impacts of invasive species on wetland habitat
  • Research ways to make the wetland more accessible to underserved groups and develop community partnerships
  • Develop fundraising strategies and materials to support our organization's programs
  • Assist with tracking grants and helping with Parks Foundation programming and events

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates who have:

  • A strong commitment to our organization's mission and vision
  • A bachelor's degree and/or one year of experience in fundraising, grant writing, and/or networking
  • Environmental consciousness and an understanding of wetland habitats
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Initiative, enthusiasm, and a spirit of service
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Fluency in Spanish (preferred)
  • Coursework or experience in environmental science (preferred)

Compensation And Benefits

As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you will receive the following benefits:

  • A living allowance of approximately $15,000
  • Choice of a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of approximately $6,100 or a post-service stipend of $1,800 upon completion of service
  • Relocation settling-in allowance (if applicable)
